VICU by Alpaca India

We are excited to announce that Alpaca India has launched a new line dedicated to toddlers and children. Meet Vicu by Alpaca India, a young and vibrant line specifically designed for our youngest family members. Vicu is a small family business on the Tijuana/San Diego border and is led by Olivia Arreguin and Leigh Suarez. Each piece is specially made to order using handmade techniques. “Vicu is the result of an evolving project that has matured into a brand devoted to the fun and loving alpacas of South America.” Vicu combines the innocence and uniqueness of each and every child by producing only a limited number of 100% handmade pieces with great attention to detail.  Here you can find the perfect gift for your little one.

Thank you Alpaca India for allowing MPR Studio Photography to be a part of such an amazing opportunity in your life and career. We are thrilled to have played a major part in the launching of this new project.

Edwin + Teresa Wedding

Edwin an Teresa’s wedding took place in a beautiful venue in Baja California. They were accompanied by their closest family and friends to share this special moment with them. They wanted the sea to be their witness as they shared their vows and professed their love for one another. Their wedding decor was of course in alignment with sea life and sea nature. Thank you Edwin and Teresa for allowing MPR Studio Photography to be a part of this wonderful new chapter in your lives. We wish you both the best and many years of a happy marriage. To the newly weds!

Ambitious Project Leads Artists to Build 47 Monuments Along the 1821 U.S.-Mexico Border

It’s no secret that deep within the roots of the U.S.-Mexico border lies a history that’s shared across school textbooks and documentaries; mainly known to those that live in U.S. border cities. The U.S.- Mexico border that we know today was established in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Prior to that treaty however, there used to be a border, now forgotten, that dictated Mexico’s land ownership one that limited the United States’s expansion and Manifest Destiny.

Twenty years later, the United States would claim authority over, what are now the states of, California, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico all the way to Texas. In light of restoring forgotten history a group of ambitious photographers set off on a road trip to remap the 1821 U.S.-Mexico border. Their project is named “DeLIMITations: A Survey of the 1821 United States-Mexico Border” where a 6-foot-6-inch obelisks was placed all throughout the West and the South to mark the ghost border of 1821.

As a photographer I understand the importance of restoring destroyed or lost images. There are gems hidden in every inch of this Earth and we must save and treasure as much as we possibly can. These two artists understood the importance of restoring (or at least identifying) the old border between two great nations. Of reliving history or of making it again.  DeLIMITations is a great project to showcase that art is not simply a form of expression but of history itself. For art will remain even if dirt lines are erased and redrawn.

Maternity Session in Baja

I may not enjoy the heat that comes with summer but I sure love the beautiful lighting we get. With longer daylight hours during summer time I am able to extend my photo shoots an extra thirty minutes or even an hour to capture the gorgeous sunsets of the Pacific.

There is something quite special about maternity sessions. I think it’s the realization that at one point in our lives we were extremely vulnerable and dependent on a human being much larger than ourselves. As we grow older we seek our independence and seldom remember that we were guided and protected every step of the way for many years.

This why I absolutely love to shoot maternity sessions like the one below. There is purity, tenderness and love. This session was shot in beautiful Baja California, Mexico in a remote beach in Rosarito. Far away from any tourist location I was able to photograph the intimate moments of a mother and her twin children. The beauty of Baja California is like no other. Aside from all the tourist locations and crowded streets, there are still places full of purity and tranquility.

Happy Birthday Frida!

Today we celebrate 109 years of Frida Kahlo! On a day very much like today (July 6th, 1907) Frida began to conquer a nation through her beautiful artwork. MPR Studio Photography would like honor Frida as an influential artist not only through painting but through photography as well.13625261_10154332935334288_405035989_nPhoto: Manuel Alvarez Bravo

In the early days of MPR Studio Photography, Frida Kahlo became the source of inspiration for one of the studio’s major projects. Frida was a source of uniqueness and freedom to be creative beyond the barriers of art photography.

Tijuana Urban-Retro

“Imagine having a city full of things that no other city had”- Bill Bryson, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid

Tijuana, Baja California, MX is a border city that captures time and treasure. Even though Tijuana and San Diego are many times considered to be one-in-the-same, Tijuana holds many key locations that embody Mexico and showcase Tijuana as a leading retro-yet-urban city. With time, Tijuana has adapted to fit our every changing modern world while treasuring its original retro style.

For example, you can still find several murals across the city in local and tourist areas. Traditional ice cream shops such as, “Michoacana” are still well distributed across the city where you can enjoy a delicious ice cream cone on a hot summers day. Telephone booths are still visible across the city  and while coins can still be used to operate the phone booths, the city has now moved to rechargeable phone cards while maintaining the original red “TELNOR” logo.

Tijuana is a beautiful city like no other. Explore it. Know it. Love it.
