At the Café – Blogger @modamonse

There is no better way to start the morning than with a well deserved cup of coffee.

We love taking photos that represent everyday life. Who loves coffee on an early Monday morning? We do! These shots were taken early in the morning to catch the first sun rays. The light is soft and smooth which is a great way to avoid harsh shadows. This coffee shop setting worked perfectly for fashion blogger modamonse shoot. She wanted to show morning outfits that are perfect for the workplace. And there’s no better place to stop before heading to work than at your local coffee shop. A neutral palette is flattering all year round it’s all about how you style it.

Sunday Morning

Sit back, relax and enjoy the day.

That’s what you’re suppose to do on Sundays right? We know that for many of us that’s not always the case but on the rare occasion that we’re able to relax and enjoy the weekend there’s no better way to do than by taking a walk around your neighborhood. Sometimes taking the perfect photo doesn’t mean scouting for the perfect location. It simply means capturing the most imperfect moment and embracing it as simply perfect. I wasn’t planning on photographing anything in particular I just wanted to take my camera and walk around the block. No scouting, no appointments simply enjoying my Sunday morning. And without knowing it, I ended capturing some beautiful shots of my daughter. There was no posing, staging or light measurements. These photos are a reflection of a Sunday morning.

Tatiana

October is breast cancer awareness month and that means celebrating the all encompassing beauty of each and every single woman on this Earth. There is beauty in every glance, in every spoken word and every tender touch. Beauty knows no age, shape or background. Beauty, simply is.

This month of October I want to applaud and celebrate all the women in our lives because they all are apologetically beautiful. Thank you for the beauty of your knowledge, strength, wisdom and love. Woman, your are natures greatest gift and for that we owe everything to you.

Rolando + Daphne Wedding

“I will spend an eternity loving you, caring for you, respecting you, showing you every day that I hold you as high as the stars.”
―Steve Maraboli

This beautiful intimate wedding took place in at the Cabrillo National Monument, California on August 29th, 2015. Cabrillo is a top wedding location for San Diego residents and non-residents as well. This California historical landmark is located at the Southern tip of Point Loma where you can appreciate a gorgeous view of San Diego’s skyline, harbor and Pacific Ocean.

The reception was comprised of close family and friends who gathered to witness the union between Rolando and Daphne. A year ago on the same day you were gazing into each other’s eyes and saying I do. One whole year has passed and you still haven’t stop gazing. Happy first anniversary Rolando and Daphne!

Romeo

“Let me love you a little more before you’re not little anymore”

Thank you Jacqueline and Cesar for letting me capture and share such a special moment of you and your family. The baptism of baby Romeo took place at St. Jude Shrine of the West where he received his first blessed sacrament. This intimate moment was later followed by family photos at Presidio Park. Thank you Cesar and Jacqueline for letting me be a part of such a special moment.

Photos are in order of occurrence.

Ambitious Project Leads Artists to Build 47 Monuments Along the 1821 U.S.-Mexico Border

It’s no secret that deep within the roots of the U.S.-Mexico border lies a history that’s shared across school textbooks and documentaries; mainly known to those that live in U.S. border cities. The U.S.- Mexico border that we know today was established in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Prior to that treaty however, there used to be a border, now forgotten, that dictated Mexico’s land ownership one that limited the United States’s expansion and Manifest Destiny.

Twenty years later, the United States would claim authority over, what are now the states of, California, Oregon, Nevada, New Mexico all the way to Texas. In light of restoring forgotten history a group of ambitious photographers set off on a road trip to remap the 1821 U.S.-Mexico border. Their project is named “DeLIMITations: A Survey of the 1821 United States-Mexico Border” where a 6-foot-6-inch obelisks was placed all throughout the West and the South to mark the ghost border of 1821.

As a photographer I understand the importance of restoring destroyed or lost images. There are gems hidden in every inch of this Earth and we must save and treasure as much as we possibly can. These two artists understood the importance of restoring (or at least identifying) the old border between two great nations. Of reliving history or of making it again.  DeLIMITations is a great project to showcase that art is not simply a form of expression but of history itself. For art will remain even if dirt lines are erased and redrawn.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

I’ve been waiting for the perfect photo shoot to finally put my Petzval lens to use! My fingers were itching to go outside and capture some beautiful images. For this photo shoot I wanted to base it around the theme of a Midsummer Night’s Dream, the famous Shakespeare Comedy. Some of the most iconic characters in his play are the fairies who inhabit the forest and who control the main characters.

In the play, the fairies are constantly surrounded by flowers and nature and I wanted to portray that in this photo shoot. Mischievous as they are, the fairies create magical juices and the entire play is set within a whimsical backdrop. My Petzval lens was a great way to create a curved vignette effect for a magical and whimsical feel. It’s as if the fairies were in a parallel reality where a distorted transparent wall allows them to peek into the outside world without anyone noticing their beautiful presence.
