October is breast cancer awareness month and that means celebrating the all encompassing beauty of each and every single woman on this Earth. There is beauty in every glance, in every spoken word and every tender touch. Beauty knows no age, shape or background. Beauty, simply is.

This month of October I want to applaud and celebrate all the women in our lives because they all are apologetically beautiful. Thank you for the beauty of your knowledge, strength, wisdom and love. Woman, your are natures greatest gift and for that we owe everything to you.

Alexis + Michelle Fall Session

Young love. I adore everything about it! Alexis and Michelle are celebrating  3+ years of being together. They thought that a photo session to capture their happiness and love would be the perfect way to celebrate. These moments were captured at Golden Hill Park where you can appreciate the beautiful San Diego skyline. Like the evening sunset their love is soft and tender. Happy Anniversary Alexis and Michelle. To many more years of love, laughter and happiness.

Rolando + Daphne Wedding

“I will spend an eternity loving you, caring for you, respecting you, showing you every day that I hold you as high as the stars.”
―Steve Maraboli

This beautiful intimate wedding took place in at the Cabrillo National Monument, California on August 29th, 2015. Cabrillo is a top wedding location for San Diego residents and non-residents as well. This California historical landmark is located at the Southern tip of Point Loma where you can appreciate a gorgeous view of San Diego’s skyline, harbor and Pacific Ocean.

The reception was comprised of close family and friends who gathered to witness the union between Rolando and Daphne. A year ago on the same day you were gazing into each other’s eyes and saying I do. One whole year has passed and you still haven’t stop gazing. Happy first anniversary Rolando and Daphne!

Maternity Session in Baja

I may not enjoy the heat that comes with summer but I sure love the beautiful lighting we get. With longer daylight hours during summer time I am able to extend my photo shoots an extra thirty minutes or even an hour to capture the gorgeous sunsets of the Pacific.

There is something quite special about maternity sessions. I think it’s the realization that at one point in our lives we were extremely vulnerable and dependent on a human being much larger than ourselves. As we grow older we seek our independence and seldom remember that we were guided and protected every step of the way for many years.

This why I absolutely love to shoot maternity sessions like the one below. There is purity, tenderness and love. This session was shot in beautiful Baja California, Mexico in a remote beach in Rosarito. Far away from any tourist location I was able to photograph the intimate moments of a mother and her twin children. The beauty of Baja California is like no other. Aside from all the tourist locations and crowded streets, there are still places full of purity and tranquility.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

I’ve been waiting for the perfect photo shoot to finally put my Petzval lens to use! My fingers were itching to go outside and capture some beautiful images. For this photo shoot I wanted to base it around the theme of a Midsummer Night’s Dream, the famous Shakespeare Comedy. Some of the most iconic characters in his play are the fairies who inhabit the forest and who control the main characters.

In the play, the fairies are constantly surrounded by flowers and nature and I wanted to portray that in this photo shoot. Mischievous as they are, the fairies create magical juices and the entire play is set within a whimsical backdrop. My Petzval lens was a great way to create a curved vignette effect for a magical and whimsical feel. It’s as if the fairies were in a parallel reality where a distorted transparent wall allows them to peek into the outside world without anyone noticing their beautiful presence.

Happy Birthday Frida!

Today we celebrate 109 years of Frida Kahlo! On a day very much like today (July 6th, 1907) Frida began to conquer a nation through her beautiful artwork. In the early days of MPR Studio Photography, Frida Kahlo became the source of inspiration for one of the studio’s major projects. Frida was a source of uniqueness and freedom to be creative beyond the barriers of art photography.

Lomography New Petzval 85 Art Lens

From the page of Microsites.Lomography.com

The totally distinctive look of Petzval photos is all about the fantastic lens design that gives you the satisfaction of the instant optic experience that goes far beyond using photo editing software and filters. The New Petzval 85 Lens is the perfect portrait lens for when you want your photographic subject to be the centre of attention. Photos shot with the New Petzval 85 Lens are immediately recognizable for their super-sharp focus areas and wonderful swirly bokeh effect. Shoot with an open aperture for soft photos with strong bokeh, or close your aperture for super-sharp, clear images.

The Lomography New Petzval 85 Art Lens can create photos with truly beautiful Bokeh. Get it right and your shots will be bursting with wonderful out-of-focus areas. But to reach the level of swirly skill you aspire to, you must first learn Zen-like control over the lens and how best to get this amazing effect. Read these tips and you will be well on the way to Bokeh and other enlightenments!

After reading and hearing so many great things about the Petzval lens I went ahead and ordered mine. Finally my lens arrived and of course I went out a shot a couple of tests. Given, I need more practice but so far I love the results.

These were all shot at sunset at the largest aperture of F/2.2 for this lens.IMG_8034-PSD 12X18IMG_8071-PSD 12X18 copyIMG_8039-PSD 12X18IMG_8089-PSD 12X18 copyIMG_8032-PSD 12X18IMG_8061-PSD 12X18 copyIMG_8108-PSD 12X18IMG_8101-PSD 12X18 copy

Wild Love

Back in early spring I had the opportunity to work alongside local Designer Jacqueline Guerra from Love War & Fashion.

Wild Love was inspired by the spring bloom, the green, and flowy dresses! Our beautiful Miss Teen Universe contestant-model, Amor Guerra,  communicates to young teens to embrace their wild side. To be free-spirits and to pursue their dreams.

I couldn’t have asked for more. On the day of our shoot we had the perfect trifecta: weather, location, and model. The rest is history!
